Jesus answers the Pharisees by enlightening them that God desires mercy over their legalistic religious rituals and traditions. Jesus gives one of his most clear statements of focus in His ministry, "I did not come to call the healthy, I came for the sick." The Gospel is not for good people, it is for bad people that know they are bad and need Jesus.
