Earthquake in Turkey

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on February 6 with enough force to be felt in nations hundreds of miles away. More than 100 aftershocks have been recorded since the initial disaster, impacting millions of people throughout the region. Through local partners in southern Turkey and northern Syria, Send Relief is meeting critical needs for impacted families in desperate need of help and hope.

There is extraordinary power in prayer. Here are ten ways you can pray in the aftermath of the Turkey-Syria earthquake.

PRAY FOR:
  • Local search and rescue teams as they continue rescuing residents trapped under rubble.
  • Those needing shelter in Turkey and Syria.
  • Those grieving the loss of loved ones in the disaster.
  • Many who have been displaced during the cold of winter and are sleeping in freezing temperatures outside.
  • Those in Syria, who have already been living in the decade-long crisis of ongoing violence and conflict.
  • Believers in the affected areas as they seek to minister in the crisis.
  • Send Relief and responding partners as they seek to bring help and hope to those affected.
  • Responding partners and their families as many of them have experienced trauma in the disaster.
  • Assessment and responding partners as they travel into affected areas and for traveling safety.
  • Wisdom for the Send Relief team and local partners as they make response decisions.

Send Relief, of the Southern Baptist Convention,  is working with local partners in Syria and Turkey to respond to critical needs. Within hours of the disaster, local partners began providing blankets, water bottles, food and other emergency supplies in impacted neighborhoods.
