What You Do While Waiting on God

What Do You Do While You’re Waiting on God?
Waiting Isn’t Easy
Most of us don’t mind waiting if we know how long it will be.
Waiting for a table at a restaurant or standing in line at the grocery store is manageable because we know the wait will eventually end. But waiting on God is different. We often don’t know how long the season will last or what He is doing behind the scenes.
Whether you’re waiting for healing, direction, restored relationships, or an answered prayer, it’s easy to wonder if God has forgotten you.
The good news is that He never has.

Faith Before Sight
After Jesus appeared to Thomas, He made a statement that reaches far beyond that moment:
Faith isn’t pretending we have no questions. It’s choosing to believe that Jesus is faithful even when we cannot see the whole picture.
“Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”
— John 20:29 (NIV)
Jesus reminds us that faith often comes before understanding. We naturally want answers first and trust later. Yet God frequently invites us to trust Him while the answers are still unfolding.— John 20:29 (NIV)
Faith isn’t pretending we have no questions. It’s choosing to believe that Jesus is faithful even when we cannot see the whole picture.
God Strengthens Those Who Wait
Isaiah gives us another wonderful promise:
God doesn’t promise that waiting will be easy. He promises that He will give us the strength we need while we wait.
Often, His greatest work isn’t changing our circumstances—it’s shaping our character and deepening our faith.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
— Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

God doesn’t promise that waiting will be easy. He promises that He will give us the strength we need while we wait.

Keep Trusting
If you’re in a season of waiting, don’t lose heart. Keep praying. Keep worshiping. Keep opening God’s Word. Keep walking faithfully with Him.
The same Savior who was patient with Thomas is patient with us. His timing is always perfect, and His plans are always good.

Continue the Conversation
If today’s article encouraged you, I’d invite you to continue the conversation by watching this week’s sermon, “When Questions Become Worship,” in the video below.
Together we’ll explore how Jesus met Thomas in the middle of his questions and gently led him to a deeper faith. My prayer is that you’ll be encouraged to trust Christ more deeply—even when you can’t yet see what He is doing.
As you watch, consider this question:
What is Jesus inviting me to trust Him with today?
